International Students Visit SBC-USST for an Immersive Robotics Experience

Date:2025-12-12

On 9 December 2025, six international exchange students and three Chinese-language preparatory students from the Hujiang College, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST) visited the Fuxing Campus of the University, for an academic and cultural exchange with the RoboVigor Robotics Team of Sino-British College (SBC). The moment they entered the historic Fuxing Campus, the students were immediately drawn to its unique scenery, setting a warm and curious tone for the visit.

The group proceeded to the Innovation and Leadership Centre on the fourth floor of the teaching building, home to the RoboVigor Robotics Team. They were warmly welcomed by team members and faculty advisors. Upon entering the lab, the international students were impressed by the extensive range of equipment and tools on display. Chen Qi, who is responsible for project management within the team, gave an overview of the team’s structure: the Mechanical Group oversees design, manufacturing and mechanical debugging; the Algorithm Group focuses on programming, algorithm optimisation and artificial intelligence; the Electrical Control Group manages circuit design, motor control and related systems; and the Operations Group, to which he belongs, handles financial management, event planning and publicity.

Following the introduction, Chen guided the students to the centre of the lab, where a hands-on robotics experience began. With great enthusiasm, the international students took up the controllers and experimented with operating the robots developed by RoboVigor. Team captain Zhou Qiong gave a concise explanation of the robots’ design concepts and operating principles, and the elegant engineering behind the machines left the students deeply impressed.

The visit continued with Liu Ruizhe from the Electrical Control Group, who introduced the competitions the team has participated in and explained the rules and strategies involved. He engaged in an animated discussion with the students about competition experience and preparation. Meanwhile, on the other side of the room, Mechanical Group leader Bi Zongyang invited the students to sit at the computers and try out a robotics competition simulation software. The international students quickly immersed themselves in the virtual arena, taking on the role of robot operators and showcasing their skills in the simulated competition environment.

The visit concluded on a warm and engaging note. The participating exchange students shared that the trip to Fuxing Campus had given them a much richer understanding of SBC-USST’s academic heritage and campus culture. They were particularly inspired by the creativity, technical capability and collaborative spirit demonstrated by the RoboVigor team. Many commented that the experience broadened their academic horizons, fostered meaningful cross-cultural connections, and left them with lasting memories. The event received highly positive feedback from both students and faculty.
